“Council Member Garodnick’s commonsense proposal should lay to rest any notion that a workable compromise is elusive or unattainable.
“These amendments show that a strong paid sick leave bill can indeed garner significant business support. The path forward is not through political horse-trading or weakening the law beyond recognition, leaving tens of thousands of working New Yorkers behind. This is the bill, and now is the time to pass it.
“Policy experts have authored reports. Editorial boards, businesses, labor and civic groups of all stripes have weighed in. Thirty-seven Council Members have signed onto Council Member Brewer’s worthy bill. We’ve fulfilled every single aspect of the democratic process save one: a vote.
“I urge the Speaker to do right by the democratic process and by the thousands of New Yorkers facing economic hardship. I urge this amended bill be brought to the floor at once.”
