NYC Public Advocate's Statement on the 24th Anniversary of the September 11th Attacks

September 11th, 2025

"All these years later, the memories of that morning – of shock, fear, of pain – are still fresh for New Yorkers, as are our prayers for healing for all who lost someone on that day. Together with our individual experiences, we lift the memories of the people who were tragically killed in the attacks or have perished in the ensuing years since as a result of them. We celebrate the lives they lived and mourn the life they lost."

"It’s been nearly a quarter century since the attacks of September 11. A generation of adults were not yet born when this tragedy struck our city and nation. In that time, our nation and its place in the world have changed dramatically. Yet at our core, we still share that collective grief and trauma. We still have that capacity for strength through unified empathy in the face of suffering. I hope we are able to engage that empathy not only to continue support for grieving families and affected first responders, but to mitigate the pain of too many in our city."
