NYC PUBLIC ADVOCATE'S STATEMENT ON THE OBSERVANCE OF PASSOVER

April 1st, 2026

"Chag Kasher V'Sameach to all in the Jewish community preparing to celebrate Passover as it begins this evening.

"Through sharing the sacred rites and ancient traditions of Passover, we await the miracle of redemption, and strive to progress toward peace and justice. These rituals remind us of an ancient story of deliverance, and the ways in which it resonates today. In a time of real and heightened fear for many in the Jewish community, both abroad and in our own city, that story of Passover is one of hope in the face of fears. This ancestral representation of strength and perseverance through suffering and loss may both provide comfort and inspire action.

"I wish a peaceful, reflective, and safe Passover to all."
