NYC Public Advocate’s Statement On The Passing Of Lloyd A. Williams

August 6th, 2025

Press Release

“Lloyd A. Williams was a giant in Harlem, in New York City, and in the ongoing movement for economic and cultural empowerment for Black communities. As President and CEO of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and a co-founder of Harlem Week, Lloyd was more than a leader—he was a visionary who poured his heart into uplifting Harlem for more than five decades.

“I am deeply saddened by his passing and extend my condolences to his family, loved ones, and the many lives he touched through his service. His personal wealth of knowledge was inspiring, and I was proud to have the honor of his counsel and support throughout the years.

"Harlem Week will go on this year and in the years to come as a celebration of the legacy Lloyd helped build—a legacy rooted in pride, purpose, and power. May we carry his mission forward with the same passion and love he gave to our city.”
