"This evening marks the start of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. I wish all who are celebrating an easy and meaningful fast.
"Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, a day of reconciliation – with one another and with G-d. It is important to remember that we are called not only to seek forgiveness, but to grant it. Empathy and understanding are signs of strength. Recognizing our shared humanity, and the failings and shortcomings inherent in that humanity, allows us to forgive, be forgiven, and begin this new year with compassion and renewed purpose.
"Redemption is critical on the path toward healing, and grace is a blessing. May G-d bestow mercy and absolution on all who earnestly seek it, and may we all be sealed in the Book of Life."
