"Shanah Tovah U’Metukah to our Jewish community in New York and beyond as Rosh Hashanah begins this evening.

"This is a day of deep reflection, and the sound of the shofar calls for reconciliation with the past and preparation for the future. It heralds a period of contemplation and contrition. In practicing Teshuvah comes renewal, advancement on the path of self improvement and readiness to be sealed in the Book of Life. Kesivah v'Chasimah Tovah to all undertaking this time of repentance.

"I pray that 5787 brings peace and solidarity for our city and communities. With antisemitic hatred and violence around us, this is a moment to recommit to unity and compassion. The troubling times we confront are an opportunity to stand together in common humanity and move forward in common good.

"Ah gut gebentsht yohr to everyone celebrating in the coming days."
