NYCHA

What is NYCHA?

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the largest public housing authority in North America, was created in 1935 to provide decent, affordable housing for low and moderate-income New Yorkers. There are 326 public housing developments across the City’s five boroughs. Click here to learn more.

How to report emergencies, request repairs, and make a complaint?

Public housing residents can report emergencies and schedule routine maintenance repairs in their apartments and developments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Monday through Friday, 6am to midnight. Walk-in centers operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm NYCHA Residents can also download the MyNYCHA App to create or manage work tickets for their apartment or public spaces. If you are a Section 8 Voucher holder, public housing resident, or Section 8 Landlord, we encourage you to reach out to the Customer Contact Center (CCC).

How is NYCHA eligibility determined? How do you apply?

NYCHA determines final eligibility when a suitable apartment becomes available. If you are a NYCHA tenant or an applicant then here is everything you need to know about Public Housing, from how to pay your rent, to how to apply for an apartment.
